What do all the imprints mean?
Generally speaking, I would have to concede that publishing is not, in fact, brain surgery. The concept of the “imprint,” however, is one that has befuddled both those not in publishing — as well as those of us in publishing. So Sarah Weinman’s multi-part post on Confessions of an Idiosyncratic Mind explaining the different publishing imprints is a must read. Yesterday, she looked at the Macmillan imprints (Farrar, Straus & Giroux; St. Martin’s; Minotor; Picador; Tor, etc.)
