Borders up for sale?

I think we’ve all been following the opening of Borders’ new super stores / concept stores that feature face-out books, POD titles, etc. — and I posted about some of their new stores yesterday — so when Jared from PTA sent along this story from Crain’s about Borders possibly being up for sale (the reporter says “officially eyeing the auction block,”) I was intrigued (and confused since I don’t get why you would spend a lot of money if you’re out of money …)

It doesn’t look like anything will change for us book publicists for now (and it may not — just because upper management changes it doesn’t necessarily mean major day-to-day changes) but this will be an important story to follow since Borders is not only one of the largest bookselling accounts, but also one of only three national ones (on the consumer side, that is).
