Ben from Viking Penguin informs me that Arthur Salm has hung up his hat as BRE of the San Diego Union-Tribune.  Bob Pincus is his replacement.  (I’m not going to list peoples’ contact information on this site, but you should be able to look up Pincus.)

I fell in love with Conde Nast’s new(ish) business magazine Portfolio from the very first issue, an opinion that seems to be shared neither by my non-business minded friends who don’t seem to care, or my business-minded friends who … don’t seem to care.  So it was with great interest that I read Women’s Wear Daily’s story about Portfolio’s circulation numbers.  According to WWD, Portfolio’s get out to newstands is about 30K (on par with, say, Fortune) and their subscription base another 300,000K.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Portfolio, it looks Conde Nasty (which is to say great) — think Wired for the business crowd.  There is an “official” books page on which you find reviews similar to what you might find in, say, Business Week, but there are a lot of features / columns in the magazine that may mention books — like Ben Schott’s calendar — so you should check it out.
